The release of Jahia EE v6.1 includes a number of upgrades that go beyond the usual bug fixes usually available as part of a Service Pack (SP). Among those are improvements to the search engine, enhancements of SEO with better URL definition and the introduction of new social modules to ease engagement with your websites visitors.

1) Search Improvements

Search has been greatly improved with enhanced speed, taglibs and the ability to provide wider and better defined search results. Search is considered as a key software asset for Jahia. As part of this minor release, we focused our effort on facilitating visitors’ access to relevant information whatever their types (documents, texts, multimedia), locations (multiple sites support and federated search among several content repositories) and on boosting search performances.

Jahia EE v6.1 embeds a full text search engine based on the well known open source search engine: Apache Lucene. It enables webmasters to easily incorporate full-text search into any websites and includes:

• Advanced search filters and queries
• Detailed Search results customization
• Ability to define the scope of a search across a given site, sub-sites or even throughout distant federated 3rd party content repositories
• Facetted and dynamic search
• Standard-based OpenSearch support

In addition to Web Content, Jahia can search in every document like Office and PDF files. Jahia introduced faceted search capabilities, which allow the assignment of multiple classifications to any content objects, enabling drill-down kind of dynamic navigations.

Thanks to the optional Jahia's United Content Hub (JHCB) offering, your editor can easily access and reuse documents stored in distinct 3rd party content repositories (e.g: back-end ECM/DMS stores). Once a document is displayed on the Jahia front-end WCM, it is automatically re-indexed by Jahia. Doing so, Jahia is becoming a universal web access to multiple company content sources.

Finally Jahia supports the OpenSearch standards both from a production and consumption aspects. Such a feature could definitvely help your end-users more easily access to their prefered search engine for example directly from within their browser.

Extra-“Did you mean?”feature
Jahia EE v6.1 delivers a new "Did You Mean"feature (Search Engine Spell Check). This new feature is a search spelling suggestion, which improves your daily search results. We use famous Open Source Java Framework like Compass and Apache Solr to check queries against common spellings of each input keyword. When we determine an alternative suggestion that we think might improve your current search results, you will see a "Did you mean:" at the top of your search results page along with some new suggestions.

2) Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Jahia EE v6.1 introduces major URL enhancements to empower Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Friendly URLs are a key asset to 1) get a site ranked well in the public search engines, 2) better monitor and analyze access paths to certain web pages and 3) ease users creation and propagation of cross-references. URLs are also meaningful and often act a a complementary way to either access to a breadcrumb path or rapidly determine the underlying taxonomy the editor was using.

Jahia was already provided with some “friendly URL” capability for a long time. Jahia EE v6.1 enhances this feature with a new concept of vanity URLs which allows to explicitly add any number of  URL aliases to any page in order to help practitioners get better results for their marketing campaigns. 

Built-in integrity and consistency checks help users obtain top rankings in the search engines.  Public search engines may penalize sites for out-dated links and Jahia makes sure that all internal and external links are working. The new Jahia Link Checker feature extended internal integrity checks to also now detect all external broken or invalid links. Results are displayed in a table and can be easily exported as a CSV file for review.

3) New Social Content Modules

User Generated Content, Social Media and more generally speaking Marketing Engagement Campaigns are now more and more considered as a must-have features in any CMS. Jahia EE v6.1 enhanced some of its default micro-applications shipped with the product:

• Blog template
  We have enhanced the Blog template to either run as a stand alone blogging site (e.g: blog.acme.com) or to be plugged into any existing Jahia project. The goal was to refactor the existing blog code and to provide a fresh, well designed and standards-based blog application. This application will provide a solid and flexible platform for anyone to deploy user generated blogs with a complete set of features such as direct content creation (no popup, no edit mode), user generated comments, ratings, tag clouds and a built-in faceted search.
  
  
• Newsletter
  From Jahia EE v6 Jahia featured a built-in Newsletter functionality which aim to help Marketers and other Information Workers create and customize professional-looking newsletters to keep in touch with their communities of practice. This module is an ideal option to build your own internal or external marketing campaigns and was slightly improved for the 6.1 release.
  
  
• Form Builder
  This new release of the Form Builder module will allow your editors to cut down the amount of effort required to design and deploy a form. Any power knowledge worker can now easily add a new form to any page of any virtual site without any technological expertise. All forms inputs are automatically stored in the core Jahia Content Repository for further reuse.
